HUNTER FAMILIES
The Hunter Families of the Sciath Cúigear are the oldest and most prominent families of the society. They have either been there from the start of the Society's conception, or have survived over the years through hard work, perseverance, and of course, money. These families are the wealthiest and most effective hunters in the society, and are part of what maintains their prominence.

There are other minor families as well, either up and coming, or simply too small to gain much notoriety.
Montenegro Family
"Hunters from Black Mountain"

Surname Meaning:
One who came from Montenegro (black mountain), in Spain.
Country of Origin:
Spain (the Iberian peninsula)
Current Location(s):
Located mostly in Mexico and parts of the Southwest US

Centuries ago, the Montenegro were a powerful family of ruthless hunters, considered extremists even by the Hunter Society’s standards. They tracked and killed anyone and anything non-human enmasse. The hunters the family produced were deadly, with genetic traits that gave them an edge over other hunters. Their zealous killings of the supernatural caused major rifts between them and other hunter families as tolerance against monsters changed and fluctuated. Their merciless killings of supernatural creatures, some to the point of extinction, could not be overlooked by the Hunter Society; a war could break out between the two realms and that was not a risk the Society was willing to take. It was not long until the Montenegro family became the targets themselves, by both hunters and monsters alike.
Though they were strong, not even they could fend off the combined forces against them. Within a few years, dozens of the family had been killed off, and the few remaining members scattered like ashes in the wind. Some changed their names and tried to merge into other hunter families secretly. Others went off the grid entirely. Only a small portion of the Montenegro remained, clinging to what little they had left. They tried to return some of their glory, but tragedy would strike at every positive turn. It was rumored that this family was cursed. For a time, the once powerful Montenegro had been reduced to only two survivors; Isidro and Elón.
The brothers have both had some success with their progeny, as both of them have their own children and grandchildren that have made names for themselves in the modern Hunter Society.

Romero Family
"Guardians of the South"

Surname Meaning:
Pilgrim to Rome, From Rome

Country of Origin:
Various African Countries, Italy
Current Location(s):
Brazil, Mexico

The Romeros are quite possibly the largest established hunter family, with extremist views that bore a scary similarity to the Montenegro. They were ruthless against the supernatural, and still are, but have considerably toned down over the centuries. After the repeated attacks against the Montenegro, the Romeros began to intentionally breed out certain traits in efforts to appear, mentally, more normal, as the Romeros and Montenegro both were known for their heartlessness. Because of their sheer size and utter control over South America, the other hunters did not attack them like they did the Montenegro. Instead, the Romeros became a family that other hunters would prefer to have backing them, or at least be neutral towards them.
They would soon become a coveted family to marry into, as their hunters were both beautiful, skilled, and well-adjusted, a trait that had been much ignored by other families for quite some time. Blending in with civilians was just as important to their jobs as hunters as every other aspect.
Currently, Rosita Romero is the leader of both the Romero family and The Brazilian Branch, and her children and grandchildren, have made successful names for themselves in other Branches.

Mirchev Family
"Blessed by the Gods"

Surname Meaning:
Unknown

Country of Origin:
Russia
Current Location(s):
Russia, USA, Britain

The Mirchev family is an old, royal bloodline with roots in Russia and the Balkans. They were and are the most prominent hunter family in eastern Europe/Northern Asia.
The Mirchev family is split into three different branches. There is the Head Branch of the family who leads and cultivates hunters, the secondary branch whose bloodline is not as pure and many of them are servants and the live in the village, and finally the third group; the third group is a split off from the rest of the Mirchevs and don’t even hold the same surname anymore. Instead, they are something of a religious, zealot cult in northern Britain and Ireland.

Backed by their religious beliefs, The Mirchevs are a family of, what many call, heretical hunters. Not unlike the Montenegro and Romeros, their beliefs pushed them to extreme ideologies against most non-humans, while also ostracizing them from other hunters due to, what was commonly called, their delusional worship of “ancient Gods.” The Mirchevs believed and still believe they are doing the will of the deities they worship, and that one of their gods even takes residence amongst their property. When the Russian Branch was annihilated, everyone believed all the families there had been lost, only for the Mirchevs to rise up from the ashes with much of their family still intact.
Now, the Mirchevs are as as strong as ever, having even planted their roots, such as Felix Mirchev and a small number of their family in the US Branch, and Raina Mirchev in the Mexican Branch.

Grant Family
"Heralds of the Sun"

Surname Meaning:
Large, tall people

Country of Origin:
Scandinavia, France, Britain

Current Location(s):
USA, France

The Grants are one of the oldest and most enduring families within the Hunter Society, renowned for their striking appearance—tall, blonde, and beautiful—and their unmatched prestige. For centuries, the Grants have trained not only their own kin but also some of the most elite hunters across the globe. Their influence is vast, stemming from their mysterious rise in Northern Europe, where they seemingly appeared from nowhere to cement themselves as one of the most powerful and respected families in hunter history.
They had done something impossible, and that was tame even the most hardened of supernatural beasts. The Grants were able to boast total control over their monster partners, something utterly unheard of; even a well-trained monster still had a mind of their own. Not the Grants’ beasts, though. They were able to, essentially, reprogram the mind with conditional phrases and trigger words so that anyone would follow their every command without question. This has not been without controversy, as their training methods of monsters, though vastly unknown is considered deeply inhumane by many. There have even been whispers in the past that the Grants used these conditioning methods on their fellow hunters in order to gain control and influence across multiple branches.

To this day, the Grants continue to shape the future of the Hunter Society, hosting elite training programs and maintaining a vast network of scouts in search of promising recruits. They prioritize beauty, skill, and talent, believing these qualities embody their family’s ideals.

Arcano Family
"Keepers of the Veil"

Surname Meaning:
Mysterious, secrets

Country of Origin:
Various Persian and Arab Countries, Italy

Current Location(s):
USA, Italy

The Arcanos are a hunter family whose deep ties to druidic clans have shaped their legacy as both innovators and outcasts within the Hunter Society. Unlike other families, the Arcanos established close alliances with many druid families, exchanging their skills as hunters for the druids’ extensive knowledge of supernatural creatures. This collaboration gave the Arcanos unparalleled insight into identifying and confronting various entities, as well as the ability to distinguish between those that posed a threat and those under the druids' protection. In return, the Arcanos often acted as guardians, helping druids shield certain supernatural beings from harm, further solidifying their unique role in the supernatural world.

These alliances, however, have earned the Arcanos suspicion and scorn from their peers. Whispers of their supposed breeding with druids—and other supernatural creatures—have persisted for generations. The family’s pale eyes, ethereal beauty, and unnervingly graceful features are viewed as evidence of unnatural heritage, fueling rumors that they are not entirely human themselves. Such accusations, combined with their willingness to protect creatures that many hunters would target, have caused significant tension within the Hunter Society.

Though they remain a polarizing presence, the Arcanos have carved a place for themselves as pragmatic intermediaries in the complex world of hunters and the supernatural. For some, they are traitors to hunter traditions; for others, they are a necessary evolution.
