INTRODUCTION:

Sirens and Harpies are not the same though they share some similarities. Both Sirens and Harpies are of Mediterranean origin and their given names stem from Greek. They are both dangerous creatures; Sirens use their voices to lure people to them, often leading to sailors shipwrecking. Even if the travelers do not end up crashing, Sirens will latch onto ships and climb over the sides in order to grab people and pull them into the sea with them. Harpies are the faceless siblings to sirens with less humanoid forms that carry off wayward souls to their homes atop mountains, cliffs and caves. Sirens and Harpies roam in groups called flocks, most of which have an established hierarchy. They share their kills with each other, sirens often luring in people to kill and harpies taking advantage of the situations they create.

Sirens and Harpies are carnivores, choosing humans as their main targets in the past. They do not have that luxury nearly as much now and choose to eat whatever meat they can get their hands on, including fish and the like. They need to feed at least three times a day, and have designated members of the flock who usually go hunting to bring back to their nests. Sirens and Harpies live off of mountain sides and cliffs along the water's edge. They also are found commonly in beach caves and sea stacks. A siren's or harpy's nest often consists of a large ring of sizeable stones in an enclosed area, preferably a grassy one. They will fill the nest with soft cloths and animal furs and skins.

They both live for extremely long periods, though the specifics of this is unclear. Children are not common, so seeing the same Sirens and Harpies around for hundreds of years with some new editions every now and then is the norm for hunter sightings.

Sirens and Harpies can only be born; someone cannot be turned into one.

DESCRIPTION:

Sirens can be both masculine and feminine in appearance and are generally beautiful to people who lay their eyes upon them. Typically, both Sirens and Harpies appear without clothing as they have no real need for them. Sirens have a human body but sport large wings that grown from their back that they can hide for the most part by folding them. While still mostly humanoid, their hands and feet are birdlike in shape and sport talons. Sirens, if they want to go for a more human look, can shed their wings and talons and extra skin, leaving them behind wherever they were shed.

Harpies are only feminine in figure and bear no face. They do not have arms, they only have wings and bird-like legs with sharp, long, talons, scales and feathers crawling up their calves. Harpies may also shed off their wings, talons and extra skin if they truly wish to walk among humans unnoticed but this is incredibly uncommon behavior for them. They are much less social than sirens are by far.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Abilities

  • Flight: Both Sirens and Harpies have wings large enough to carry their weight and then some.

  • Siren Song: Similar to a Banshee, Sirens have an irresistible, reverberating shriek that attracts people and animals alike toward them in a trance-like state.

  • Enhanced Strength: Sirens and Harpies have extreme strength, enough to tear people in half quite easily with their legs, and lift and carry sometimes two whole grown men with ease between their talons.

Advantages

  • Can see clearly through any visual distortions such as storms and water.

  • Both Harpies and Sirens can see from very far distances without a loss of quality. They see colours a lot more vividly.

  • Similar to the talons of real birds, it’s incredibly difficult to escape the clutches of a Harpy; their leg strength grants them the ability to even tear a grown man in two or sever people’s heads from their bodies.

  • Lengthened lifespan

Disadvantages

  • Both Harpies and Sirens have issues distinguishing whether or not something is behind glass or not (think of birds that run into windows or sliding doors)

  • They have a hard time socially blending in with humans even without their wings and other physical characteristics due to many of them not understanding human society social cues and expectations.

  • Generally low population due to low fertility and also being hunted much more insistently in the past.

Ways to Kill

  • Anyway that kills a human will kill a siren or harpy though decapitation is a go-to if you can catch them.

RELATIONSHIPS

Sirens and Harpies obviously work together well but due to their clique-y nature they tend to not have much relations with other supernatural creatures. Hunters considered them a nuisance.
