ONI
INTRODUCTION:

Oni are a type of “yokai” (yokai basically meaning Japanese, supernatural beings) found mostly in Japan and the east-Asian region. They are typically depicted as incredibly strong, muscular and tall figures but may appear in several different ways. Despite their appearance, Oni are not malevolent by nature and typically only harm when disrespected or provoked. They are either solitary or roam in small groups; many Oni are nomadic and do not stay in one place for very long.
They are known to love cinnamon and rosemary, and leaving some out for them may grant you protection and luck. In much older times, Oni were worshipped similarly to kitsune with shrines dedicated to them that civilians could make offerings to.

In Eastern Asia, there used to be way more Oni, however Oni can become quite powerful. As time passed, and Japan began to get a small, lesser version of a hunter society, they started to become vary wary of what even one Oni could do if they chose to be malevolent. So as the hunter forces grew, they began specifically trying to hunt down Oni. This started causing issues between both worlds since many Oni are just trying to live normally like humans were.

After a few years, they managed to create a truce and only Oni who were actively a threat would be hunted. This was settled for a few decades until slowly, hunters began to track down every Oni they could find. Many Oni families were invited to a gathering, tricked into attending by one of their own kind, only to be locked up and killed. Many of the Oni alive today were there when this happened, and many ended up watching their whole family be slaughtered, as well as many of their friends. A large amount of Oni had awakened their third eye, which had ramped up the society's paranoia about Oni once again leading them to do this. Only a small amount of Oni managed to escape and went into hiding on the outskirts of society.

DESCRIPTION:

The appearance of Onis varies widely but there are some core attributes that many of them share or have. Within their ‘demonic’ (the term demonic is used loosely here) form, Oni are typically red, blue, or inhumanely white. Some Oni can be black in colour though this is more uncommon. All oni have at least one horn that protrudes from their skull and is often still visible even while in a more human form. Oni also have elongated claws and have a variety of hair colours both natural and unnatural. Sometimes Oni will have streaks of hair colour that is similar to their skin colour- for example, a blue oni mave have a streak of blue amongst their black hair. Yellow and red eyes are the most common for an Oni, even in their more human appearance, but they can have any eye colour. While in their demon form, Oni will sometimes have extra teeth protruding from their mouth both long and short and varying in positions, sometimes extending to along the cheeks.
Older, more wisened Oni will sometimes gain a third eye in the middle of their forehead. Sometimes Oni will have body markings across the face, arms, legs, torso, etc. that vary in size, coverage and shape/pattern. An Oni's blood colour will be reminiscent of or compliment their skin tone; for example, many blue Oni have blue blood as well meaning that they blush blue and have natural blue tint to their lips.

BECOMING AN ONI:

Oni are only born, and that is the only way someone can be an Oni.

Reproducing:

-
If both parents are Oni: the child is an Oni
-
If one parent is an Oni and the other is not, the child will be whatever the 'mother' is.
-
The color of the Oni is dependant on the parents; so if one parent is a red oni and the other is a blue oni, it's a 50/50 chance whether or not the child Oni will be blue or red.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Vulpes: Specifically Kitsune, native to the East Asian regions of the world, Oni are quite fond of and often befriend any they can find.

Hunter: The Oni that are still alive have no love for the Hunter Society, still feeling the after effects of being betrayed by them after settling an agreement and truce. They lost their families and many loved ones and friends after the Society went back on their word and, out of fear, attempted killing Oni off entirely.
